Fly Fishing At The Copper River Lodge, Alaska

Brought to you by High Country Flies & Sweetwater Travel

The Lodge

From your arrival on the dock until your departure, you will enjoy an unrivaled standard of personal service. We understand that flexibility is the key to any vacation. If you want to sleep in and fish a little later, or see another stretch of river, your yearnings will never be far from reality.

What most distinguishes Copper River Lodge from the others is their guest capacity and professional guide staff. There are only six guests a week at the lodge.  The guides have extensive experience with fly fishermen in destinations as far away as Mongolia, South American, Russia, and of  course, throughout Alaska. For them guiding is a profession, not just a summer job.  Whether you're interested in learning to double haul, or in presenting a dry fly to a tricky lie, they will always be qualified and ready to help.

Copper River Lodge gourmet food leaves nothing to be desired. Fresh baked bread, pastries, and rolls complement meals created by the professional kitchen staff.  If there is something you crave, or if you have dietary restrictions, just let them know.

Quite simply, we hope you'll ask other lodges a few questions before booking. Try any one of these: how may people will be at the lodge during my week? And by the way, is it possible to sleep in a little later, get up a little earlier, fish a little later, or fish my favorite river every day? When you hear their response, you'll see what sets us apart from the rest of the production line lodges.

The River

The Copper River is a classic trout stream packed with long dry fly glides, deep winding pools studded with boulders, faster riffles, and deep undercut banks just begging for a mouse fly. Unlike other tundra rivers in Alaska that offer large trout, the Copper runs through a scenic river valley lined with groves of cottonwood, spruce, and birch. Aside from helping make it one of the most gorgeous rivers in the state, these trees offer the fly fishermen refuge from the relentless northern winds.

Probably one of the nicest surprises for anglers visiting the Copper is the river's size and wadeability. Fishermen of any age or skill that desire the solitude of the river rather than the tutelage of the guide can comfortably and successfully fish on their own.
The Copper River Rainbows are some of the largest in Alaska, and are the reason the Copper was the first river in the state designated a "fly fishing, catch and release only, trophy rainbow river."  It is this designation that has kept the fishing so spectacular.

The Copper River Lodge has a 60-90% rebooking rate, so openings are limited.
