Section 1. Authority. These rules are promulgated by
authority of Wyoming Statutes 23-1-302, 23-2-206, 23-3-201, and 23-3-202.
Section 2. General Fishing Rules. The provisions of General
Fishing Rules (Chapter 46) apply except as specified below.
Section 3. Coverage. Area 4 includes the Green River, Little
Snake River, Bear River and Great Divide Basin Drainages.
Section 4. Seasons. Fishing is permitted in Area 4 during the
calendar year except as specified differently below:
(a) Boulder Creek from the inlet of Boulder Lake to the confluence of
the North Fork of Boulder Creek is closed from April 1 through June 30.
(b) Burnt Lake and Meadow Lake in Sublette County are closed from
November 15 through April 30.
(c) Currant Creek in Sweetwater County is closed to fishing from April
1 through June 30.
(d) Dempsey Creek, Trail Creek, the Ham's Fork River upstream to
Corral Creek and all sloughs and tributaries to Viva Naughton Reservoir, and Camp Creek,
Fish Creek and Robinson Creek tributary to Kemmerer City Reservoir are closed from April 1
through June 30.
(e) Fall Creek in Sublette County is closed to fishing from May 1
through June 30 from Burnt Lake downstream 500 yards.
(f) Green River proper from Fontenelle Dam (R112W, T23N, S25 SE 1/4)
downstream approximately one mile to the U.S. Geological Survey gauge station (cable
crossing) at the Weeping Rocks Campground (R111W, T24N, S31NE 1/4) will be closed to
fishing from October 7 through November 7.
(g) Jim Bridger Pond, Sweetwater County (R101W, T20N, S10) is closed
to ice fishing.
(h) Lake Alice and its upstream tributaries in Lincoln County are
closed from April 1 through June 30.
(i) Meadow Creek and that portion of Meadow Lake east of Game and Fish
Department markers in Sublette County are closed from April 1 through June 30.
(j) New Fork River above the New Fork Lakes is closed from September 1
through April 30.
(k) North Piney Lake and upstream tributaries in Sublette County are
closed from June 1 through July 15.
(l) Pole Creek from Halfmoon Lake to the outlet of Fayette Lake is
closed from April 1 through June 30.
(m) Soda Lake north of Pinedale in Sublette County is closed from
October 1 through May 9.
(n) Sulphur Creek above Sulphur Creek Reservoir is closed April 1
through June 30.
(o) Surprise Creek Drainage, including Surprise Lake in Sublette
County, is closed from November 1 through July 31.
(p) The following waters are closed all year:
(1) Bone Draw tributary to the Big Sandy River.
(2) Flume Creek below Fontenelle Reservoir.
(3) Kendall Warm Springs and Kendall Warm Springs Creek.
(4) The North Fork of the Little Snake River Drainage upstream from Forest
Service Road 809.1b.
(5) Red Creek, tributary to the Green River (upstream from the confluence with
Little Red Creek; R104W, T13N, S35).
(6) Roaring Fork of the Little Snake River, Carbon County, in the Huston Park
Wilderness Area.
(7) Rock Creek (Tributary to LaBarge Creek).
(8) Upstream face of Viva Naughton Dam (no one may fish from the dam).
Section 5. Creel Limits, Length Limits, Tackle Restrictions on Specific
Waters. The general creel limits (Chapter 46, Section 5), except the
bonus brook trout limit which does not apply in the Green River Drainage of
Area 4, and legal fishing methods apply in Area 4 except as specified
differently below:
(a) Bear River from the upstream boundary of the Bear River
State Park downstream to the northern boundary of the Evanston City limits (Sims Lane). The
limit on trout shall be two per day or in possession. Only one may exceed 20 inches.
(b) Bear River Drainage, waters as listed below. All
cutthroat trout 10 inches or less in length must be returned to the water immediately on
the waters listed below. Fishing is by the use of artificial flies and lures only.
(1) Hobble Creek Drainage (includes Lake Alice) on the Bridger-Teton
National Forest (from the forest boundary; R118, T28N, S35; upstream).
(2) Smiths Fork Drainage (including Porcupine Creek) on the
Bridger-Teton National Forest (from the forest boundary; R118W, T29N, S3; upstream).
(3) Thomas Fork Drainage (including Raymond Creek) from the
Wyoming-Idaho state line upstream.
(c) Black's Fork Drainage. All
cutthroat trout must be returned to the water immediately on the waters listed below.
Fishing is permitted by the use of artificial flies and lures only.
(1) Gilbert Creek Drainage (from the National Forest Boundary; R115W, T12N, S5;
upstream).
(2) Sage Creek Drainage (from the National Forest Boundary; R114W, T12N, S32;
upstream).
(3) West Fork Smiths Fork Drainage including Archie Creek (from the National
Forest Boundary; R116W, T12N, S10; upstream).
(4) Willow Creek (from the BLM boundary; R116W, T13N, S11; upstream).
(d) Green River Drainage, waters as listed below. All
cutthroat trout must be returned to the water immediately on the waters listed below.
Fishing is by the use of artificial flies and lures only.
(1) Beaver Creek Drainage of South Piney Creek Drainage (from the mouth R113W,
T29N, S9 upstream).
(2) Currant Creek, tributary to Flaming Gorge Reservoir.
(3) Devil's Hole Creek (R117, T27, S28).
(4) Dry Piney Creek Drainage (from the mouth; R113W, T28N, S28; upstream).
(5) Fish Creek Drainage (of South Piney Creek) on the Bridger-Teton National
Forest (from the national forest boundary; R115W, T30N, S36; upstream).
(6) North Cottonwood Creek Drainage (including Maki Creek) on the Bridger-Teton
National Forest (from the National Forest Boundary; R114W, T33N, S29; upstream).
(7) North Horse Creek and Lead Creek Drainage on the Bridger-Teton National
Forest (from the national forest boundary; R113W, T33N, S29; upstream).
(8) South Cottonwood Creek Drainage on the Bridger-Teton National Forest (from
the national forest boundary; R115W, T32N, S12; upstream). Soda Lake ponds are not
included.
(9) South Horse Creek Drainage on the Bridger-Teton National Forest (from the
national forest boundary; R114W, T34N, S27; upstream).
(10) Trout Creek Drainage (from Sage Creek; R105W, T15N, S7; upstream).
(e) Green River Drainage, waters as listed below. All cutthroat trout
10 inches or less in length must be returned to the water on the waters listed below.
Fishing is by the use of artificial flies and lures only.
(1) North Piney Creek Drainage (including North Piney Lake) on the
Bridger-Teton National Forest (from the National Forest Boundary; R115W, T31N, S25;
upstream).
(f) Green River Drainage, waters as listed below. The
limit on trout shall be six per day or in possession. Only one may be a cutthroat trout.
(1) Little Snake River Drainage downstream from Forest Service Road
809.1b.
(g) Green River from the confluence with Kendall Warm Springs downstream to the
uppermost boundary of the Warren Bridge access area (R111W, T36N, S2 SE NE). The
limit on trout shall be two per day or in possession. Only one may exceed
20 inches, provided further that all trout between 10 and 20 inches (inclusive) must be
returned to the water immediately. Angling is by the use of artificial flies and lures
only.
(h) Green River from the lowermost boundary of the Blackmon
McLaughlin public fishing easement (Forty Rod Public Fishing Area R111W, T34N, S5 NW SW)
downstream to the Swain's (Wood's) bridge, Sublette County Road 23-179, (R110W, T34N, S33
SE SE). The limit on trout shall be two per day or in possession; only one may
exceed 20 inches provided further that all trout 10 to 20 inches (inclusive) must be
released to the water immediately; Angling is by the use of artificial flies and lures
only.
(i) Green River from Swains's (Wood's) bridge, Sublette County
Road 23-179, downstream to Fontenelle Reservoir. The limit on trout, salmon and
grayling shall be six per day or in possession. Only one may exceed 20 inches, provided
further that no more than three may be trout.
(j) Green River from the Sweetwater County Road 8 Bridge, 4.5
miles below Fontenelle Dam, downstream to the Big Sandy River. The limit on trout
shall be one fish per day or in possession. All trout less than 20 inches must be returned
to the water immediately. Fishing is permitted by the use of artificial flies and lures
only.
(k) Green River Lakes (upper and lower lakes), Sublette
County. The limit on trout, salmon and grayling shall be six per day or in
possession. Only one may exceed 20 inches. All lake trout between 16 and 26 inches
(inclusive) must be returned to the water immediately.
(l) Halfmoon Lake, Sublette County. The limit on
trout, salmon and grayling shall be six per day or in possession. Only one may exceed 20
inches, provided further that no more than two fish may be lake trout.
(m) Ice Ponds at Evanston, Uinta County. The limit on
trout shall be two per day or in possession. Only one trout may exceed 20 inches.
(n) Kemmerer City Reservoir and the Hams Fork River from
Kemmerer City Reservoir upstream to Viva Naughton. The limit on trout shall be
two per day or in possession. Only one may exceed 20 inches. All trout between 13 and 20
inches (inclusive) must be returned to the water immediately. Fishing is by the use of
artificial flies and lures only.
(o) LaBarge Creek Drainage, Lincoln and Sublette Counties, from the Bureau of
Land Management boundary; R115W, T28N, S25; upstream. The limit on cutthroat
trout shall be one per day or in possession.
(p) Middle Piney Lake, Sublette County. The limit on trout or salmon
shall be six per day or in possession. Only two trout may be lake trout. Only one
trout or salmon may exceed 20 inches.
(q) New Fork River from the uppermost boundary of the Boulder Bridge Easement
(above Sublette County Road 23-136) upstream to the Mesa Road bridge (Sublette County Road
23-123). The limit on trout, salmon, and grayling shall be six fish per day or in
possession provided further that only two may be trout. Only one trout may exceed 20
inches. All trout between 10 and 20 inches (inclusive) must be returned to the water
immediately. Fishing is by the use of artificial flies and lures only.
(r) New Fork River from the Green River confluence upstream to the uppermost
boundary of the Boulder Bridge Easement (above Sublette County Road 23-136). The
limit on trout, salmon, and grayling shall be six per day or in possession. Only one may
exceed 20 inches, provided further that no more than three fish may be trout.
Section 6. Age Restrictions on Certain Waters.
(a) Spring Creek Channel near Cokeville in open to persons 65 years of age or
older and to children under 14.
(b) It shall be unlawful for persons 14 years of age and older to fish the
following waters.
(1) Pinedale Children's Pond in Sublette County.
(2) Sylvan Ponds near Fremont Lake.
Section 7. State Hospital Pond. State Hospital Pond is open only to
patients of the Wyoming State Hospital.
Section 8. Live Bait Fish. The use or possession of live
bait fish in Area 4 is prohibited except that licensed bait dealers may hold live bait
fish until the time of sale. A holder of a valid seining license may seine or trap bait
fish for use as dead bait in the Green and Bear river drainages, excluding national
forests. Any bait fish captured except those to be held by live bait dealers must be
killed immediately.
Section 9. Spear Gun Fishing. Underwater spear gun
fishing is permitted in Flaming Gorge Reservoir, Fontenelle Reservoir and Fremont Lake
from June 1 through August 31. All general and specific water creel limits apply.
Section 10. Flaming Gorge Reservoir. The general creel limits
(Chapter 46, Section 4) and legal fishing methods apply except as specified differently
below:
(a) The limit on trout and salmon shall be six. Only three of these
fish may be kokanee salmon. Only three of these fish may be lake trout; only one lake
trout may exceed 28 inches. All kokanee salmon caught from October 1 through November 7
must be returned to the water immediately. The possession or use of gaffs for landing fish
is prohibited.
(b) A valid Wyoming license will be valid to fish in the Utah portions of
Flaming Gorge Reservoir when accompanied by a Utah reciprocal fishing stamp. A
valid Utah fishing license will be valid to fish in the Wyoming portions of Flaming Gorge
Reservoir when accompanied by a Wyoming reciprocal fishing stamp. Reciprocal fishing
stamps must be signed across the face.
