Snake River
The Bureau of Reclamation has significantly reduced flows out of Jackson Lake recently, though flows have now been stable for three days and will remain so for one more. Beginning October 1 flows will further be reduced for about three additional days, though in lesser increments.
How have the reduced flows effected the fishing? Well, as our Snake River cutthroats settle into their new holding lies they seem quite reluctant to come to the surface for dry flies. The good news is that they are taking bead head style nymphs with reckless abandon. We anticipate that when significant flow reductions are finalized (around October 4) that our cutties will once again return to their usual dry fly chomping selves.
Streamers have also had their moments, but in general the weather has been a little too nice. Dark overcast skies should make a big difference when, and if, they occur.
Bead head nymphs to try include the Billard's Prince Nymph in size 14 or 16, standard Prince Nymphs, Red Fox Squirrel Tail, and Golden Stone patterns, all in sizes 12 through 16.
