Green River Fishing Report

September 13, 2003

Overall the Green River produced some excellent fishing this summer. The Green can be a temperamental fishery and we did see some days that fit this mold, but for the most part our trips returned with some very memorable stories. Though we did see some slow days in August the early season hatches were the best we’ve seen in the last couple of years. Following the great number of bugs this summer, were expecting some big things out of the Pinedale area in 2004.

Currently with the recent rainfall and the irrigation season at an end, the Green is once again becoming a very viable and exciting fall fishery. With the cooler fall temperatures, you will find the trout becoming more active through mid-day, producing consistent action for anglers. If you’re looking to fish dry flies, forget about the bigger attractor patterns of summer and become more imitative with you’re smaller size dries. What this area is really known for in the fall, however, is its streamer fishing. As the Brown Trout become aggressive closer to their spawning season the streamer fishing can be outstanding. My suggestion for you: be prepared for some cold, wet fall weather, and make sure to have a selection of small dries and big streamers. One thing is for sure, the Pinedale area can be a terrific late season fishery.
