Green River Fishing Report
July 2, 2010
Summer is here! Temperatures in the
region have climbed significantly in the past week. The rains have
subsided and mountain snow has been melting around the clock.
Temperatures in the surrounding mountains have remained above
freezing at night and into the 70s during the day. Recent reports
describe the river as still being way off color. Stream flows at
Warren Bridge are currently at 2500 cfs, which is about 1,000 cfs
above normal. With the water being high, the number of good spots
for holding fish is low. With the water being dirty, fish have a
harder time seeing the food that’s floating in front of them.
This sounds bad, right? If you guessed ‘yes’ you are correct. The
good news is that we’ve had warm temps long enough and snow is
disappearing to a point where we can expect to begin seeing water
levels drop and clarity improve. When exactly will this happen?
The crystal ball is broken today so we’re speculating about our
timing. Educated guesses around the shop have us thinking that
we’re days, not weeks away from excellent fishing on the Green.
The exciting part is that when things turn around we should begin
seeing surface action. Expect to see PMDs, drakes, golden stones,
and caddis flying around. Pay attention not only to the surface but
to what’s happening underneath-turn over rocks, stick a bandana or
fine net in the water to see what’s swimming, floating or crawling
around. Don’t be afraid to match the ‘hatch’ before it happens.
The light is coming into view at the end of the tunnel for the
Green. Feel free to call the shop to get the most up to date
information. Things will change quickly-when the water clears and
the level drops it’ll be ‘game on’ on the Green.
